Bribing the judge in Nevada
Never try to bribe an honest man ... or this judge, either!
The Wall Street Journal once told the story of a Nevada mining claim that came before a judge with a reputation for a free and easy brand of justice. One morning, His Honor said:
“Gentlemen, this court has in hand a check from the plaintiff in this case for $10,000 and a check from the defendant for $15,000. The court will return $5,000 to the defendant. Then, we will try the case strictly on its merits.”
